Born on April 22, 1929, in Derby, he was the son of Sidney H. and Leona (Kettel) Fisk. His family lived in the Montpelier area and he attended schools in Montpelier.
Mr. Fisk enlisted in the Army on October 27, 1950, and served as a Corporal during the Korean War in Germany, later becoming a pilot. He received the Army of Occupation Medal and was honorably discharged in 1952. After his active duty he served in the Army National Guard. He worked for a while in Wisconsin and later moved to Oklahoma before returning to Vermont. He worked throughout his life as a carpenter and builder.
He raced in the late model division at Thunder Road in the early 1970s and again in the late 1970s to early 1980s.
Woodworking, making clocks, fishing, auto racing and following the Red Sox were his special interests.
He had been a member of the American Legion in Waitsfield.
Survivors include his sister, Eunice Ek of Bronx, NY; his sister, Helen Francis of Hinesburg; a brother, Francis Fisk of Bethany, OK; three sons, Robert Fisk of Barre, Allen Fisk of Berlin, and Larry Fisk of Florida; two daughters, Eileen Houle of Orange and Karen Ormsbee of Sterling, MA; his companion, Violet Cilley of Barre; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by two brothers, William and Floyd, and five sisters, Doris, Beulah, Winifred, Tina and Vivian.
A graveside service with military honors, officiated by the Rev. Michael G. Fonner, pastor of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Montpelier, will be held Friday, January 18, 2008, at 1 p.m. in the Hope Cemetery in Barre. There are no calling hours.
