She attended Barre schools and graduated from Spaulding High School in 1963 and the University of Vermont in Burlington in 1967 with a bachelor's degree in education.

She married Thomas E. Hart in St. Monica Catholic Church in Barre and they made their home in Hinesburg. They later divorced.

Mary had been an elementary school teacher in Charlotte and since the days of "Mr. Izor," she was an educator of special needs students at Harwood Union High School; he was her friend, colleague and mentor. Mary has been on the staff for over 30 years.

Walking every day to enjoy the out of doors with her eager and excited family of dogs and being and avid New York Yankees baseball fan were her special interests.

She had met Mickey Mantle at his home in Texas while on her honeymoon and had her picture taken with him; also, sending special occasion cards to her many friends and photography were special.

In earlier years, she had been affiliated with the Church of the Good Shepherd (Episcopal) in Barre.

Survivors include her life's partner, Kim Fitzgerald of Moretown; her son Brady Hart and his wife Diana and three grandchildren; Davis, Cabot and Willa Hart all of Montpelier and her extended family; Sean and Linda Havey and their children, Katie and Stephanie, all of Bristol, as well as Sean's sister, Tasha.

A service of remembrance and celebration of her life is being arranged by her family and friends at the Wimble Farm on Moretown Common on Sunday, May 18, 2008, at noon.

A potluck reception will follow at Harwood Union High School in South Duxbury.
