Barbara Emogene Sweet, born December 15, 1922, died May 25, 2008, in the Claxton Hepburn Hospital in Ogdensburg, New York, after a brief illness.

Daughter of the late Lucy Arvilla Gray and Allen Wait Sweet, she is survived by her sister, Faye Allen Sweet Rice of Henderson, NY, her brother, Herbert Allen Sweet of Norwood, NY, many cousins, nieces and nephews, their children and grandchildren. Another brother, Arthur Gray Sweet, predeceased her.  

Barbara, an avid reader and genealogist, was a descendent of General Benjamin Wait who founded Waitsfield, VT, and a member of the LeRay de Chaumont chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She attended Waddington High School, graduating in 1941. She went on to study at the Ogdensburg Business School and worked at the Canton, NY, Court House before moving to Liverpool, NY, to work for the Electronics Park, a sector of General Electric, and later in the Rare Books Library at Syracuse University. In 1967 she moved to Watertown, NY, and worked for the Flower Memorial Library until her retirement. She cared for her elderly mother for many years following the death of her father, returning home to Waddington, NY, to pursue her hobbies of flower gardening, reading and research.  

Burial will be at Brookside Cemetery, Waddington, NY. A memorial service is being planned by the family for late summer. Donations in Barbara's name may be sent to the Waitsfield Historical Society, P.O. Box 816, Waitsfield, VT 05673.
