Ruth I. Shoop, 84, of Senor Road, Warren, passed away peacefully at Mayo Healthcare in Northfield on Sunday, June 22, 2008. Born in Ashland, PA, on January 13, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Calvin and Katie (Singmaster) Eister. On March 20, 1943, Ruth married Roy A. Shoop in Yuma, AZ. Mr. Shoop passed away on February 13, 1999.

Ruth grew up and attended schools in Ashland, PA, and then moved to California to be with her soon-to-be husband Roy. Busy and happy as a homemaker and raising their children, Ruth and Roy lived in Pennsylvania, California, Alaska and have made Warren their home since 1993. Ruth enjoyed attending the Warren United Church, the Mad River Valley Senior Center and in her leisure time she gardened, listened to music, enjoyed caring for children and was a longtime caregiver for her beloved husband who had been disabled since 1970.

Ruth will be deeply missed by her children, Fay Ann Kathan and her husband Wayne of Warren and Col. Barry Shoop and his wife Linda of West Point, NY; her five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; as well as her nieces, nephews and extended family. She was predeceased by two sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held from the Warren United Church on Saturday, June 28, at 2 p.m. with interment to follow in the Warren Village Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts would be appreciated to the Mad River Valley Senior Center, 5308 Main Street, Waitsfield, VT 05673.
