Frances R. Freeman, 83, of Columbia, CT, died Wednesday, January 7,
2009, at the Windham Hospital in Connecticut of heart disease. She was
born August 31, 1925, to Rose McManus and George Freeman.
She leaves two sisters, Gladys M. Freeman and Elizabeth A. Freeman of
Columbia, CT. Frances was a teacher from 1949 until 1980 at several
schools in Cheshire, CT. She thoroughly enjoyed her numerous trips
throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico with special friends
and members of the SNET Telephone Pioneers.
One of her favorite places to travel was to her log cabin that she and
her sisters built on Lincoln Gap Road in Warren, VT, in 1960. She had
many fond memories in The Valley of times spent at Hap's and
Phyl-Den's, coffee and donuts with Albert and Thelma Neill, chats on
her front porch with Roy Long, lawn service and friendship with Bill
Peatman, and custom woodwork for her cabin by friend Carl Tyler and his
wife Linda.
She will be greatly missed by the Gib Geiger family of Waitsfield, as
she was the one who brought Gib (and his brother, Eric, now of Norfolk,
MA) here, every school vacation during the '60s and '70s. She was like
a second mother to them and it is because of Fran that Gib and his
family now live in Waitsfield. She most recently was able to return to
her cabin last October, having not been here for nine years prior, so
she was quite happy.
Frances dreamed of moving here but never could. Her ashes have
returned, though, and will be spread around the cabin she so loved.
