Richard James "Dickie" Taft Jr.

Richard James "Dickie" Taft Jr., 24, passed away unexpectedly in Waterbury on Monday, March 2, 2009. Born in Berlin on December 20, 1984, he was the son of Richard Taft Sr. and Clara (Dow) Taft.

Dickie was a 2003 graduate of Harwood Union High School in Duxbury where he was a member of the varsity teams of baseball and basketball. Following graduation, he was employed for several years at Super Thin Saws of Moretown, the Sugarbush Golf Course, the Country Club of Vermont, and most recently in production at Green Mountain Coffee Roasters in Waterbury.

In his leisure time Dickie enjoyed playing for the Saints men's softball team in Waterbury, men's recreation league basketball, fishing, playing video games and watching movies. He was a member of the Son's of the American Legion, Post 59 of Waterbury. He will be fondly remembered for his special relationship with his nieces and nephews who loved him deeply.

Dickie is survived by his parents, Richard and Clara Taft of Wilton, NY; his brother, Shawn Taft, and his wife Amber of Waterbury; his nieces, Abigail DiMario and Noella Taft; his nephews, Drew DiMario and Jacobey Taft; as well as aunts, uncles and extended family.

Memorial services will be held from the Waterbury American Legion Home, 16 Stowe Street, on Friday, March 6, 2009, at 2 p.m. with a reception to follow.
