George A. Neill of Warren passed away peacefully on April 15, 2009, in the Radius Health Care Center of Worcester, MA, after a long illness.

George was born and raised in Warren and lived in this town most of his life.  He was the eldest son of the late Iolene (Greenslit) and Norman Neill and was predeceased by a sister, Marion. He is survived by his wife Jean; daughter Annette and her husband Les Beede of Brookfield, MA; two brothers, Robert and life partner Eloise of Tampa, FL, and Donald and wife Mittie of Mandeville, LA; a grandson, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

George served in the U.S. Army during WWII which included approximately two years overseas with the 369th Field Artillery Battalion in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre of Operations. He was a longtime member of the American Legion Post in Waitsfield.

After his discharge from the service George returned to The Valley and eventually went to work at the new Mad River Glen ski area. He was one of the original employees who helped to build the area and who ended up dedicating over 40 years of his life to the mountain, the single chair lift, and the skiers who visited and came to live there.

George loved sports, especially hunting and fishing, and was an avid NASCAR fan.  He liked to travel but was always happy to get back home to the Green Mountains of Vermont.

A memorial service to celebrate George's life will be held on Friday, May 22, 2009, at 1 p.m. in the Warren United Church in Warren, VT. Family and friends are invited to share memories of George's life.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 128 Providence Street, Worcester, MA 01604 or to any Valley organization of choice.
