Charles Hayes, of Gainesville, FL, and a native of Waitsfield, VT,
passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on November 17, 2009.
He is survived by wife, Sondra Hayes, and children: Patricia (Ray)
Wartinger, David (Marie) Hayes, Thomas (Susan) Hayes, Steve (Judy)
Hayes, Heidi (Paul) Bartos, and Bonnie Brol. Also grandchildren: John
(Deb) McNeil, Dan (Jess) Wartinger, Frank Wartinger, Rose Marie,
Bernadette, David Jr., Hannah, Morgan, Dustin and Mattie Hayes, Julia
and Bradley Bartos, Becky, Emily and Steven Brol. He is also survived
by great-granddaughter, Adalyn Wartinger, and former wife, Ruth
Blodgett Hayes.
Charles graduated from Waitsfield High School in 1949 and UVM in 1953
and received a MS from Clarkson University in 1968. He worked in dairy
manufacturing for 10 years before teaching high school in Plainfield
and Groton, VT. Later he moved to New York where he taught at Honeoye
Falls, McQuaid Jesuit High School and Dansville High School. He also
taught at RIT, SUNY Canton and Delhi as well as several North Carolina
Community Colleges, before retiring in Florida. He was a member of the
Masonic Lodge and active in Boy Scouts for many years.
A memorial service will be held in Vermont at a later date.
