Nancy Menut Luce, 79, of Randall Street, Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 5, 2010, at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin, surrounded by her loving family and listening to her favorite music.

Born in Snyder, NY, on January 6, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Rupert B. and Hannah J. (McCarthy) Menut. Nancy met the love of her life, Robert C. Luce, while attending the University of Vermont where she graduated in 1953 with her bachelor of science nursing degree. She married Robert on August 26, 1952, and had her first of six children shortly after graduating from college.

Nancy lived and raised her family in Waterbury with her husband Robert, who passed away on March 2, 1996. In addition to her six children and their spouses, 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, Nancy is survived by countless others to whom she listened in earnest and who thought of her as a second mom, including many on the staff of Woodridge Nursing Home where she spent her final months.

Nancy was always surrounded by rescued animals that seemed to know that they could find refuge in her home. She loved classical music, jazz, chocolate, Sunday morning brunch at Maxi's Restaurant and, most of all, interesting conversation. She was devoted to her community, her church and served many organizations including the Waterbury Village Trustees, the Fourth of July Committee, the Waterbury Congregational Church Choir, the Waterbury Ambulance Service, the Waterbury Area Senior Citizens board and the American Cancer Society. For many years she and Robert ran the family business, the F. C. Luce Co. in Waterbury.

Nancy is survived by her children, Robert Luce and his wife Aida, Stephen Luce and his wife Angela, Camille Mason and her husband David, Daniel Luce and his wife Christine, Susan Luce, and Margaret Pehle and her husband Mark; her grandchildren, Anna Luce, Craig Luce, Emily Dawson, Cameron Luce, Jesse Lubold, Carmen Mason, Ian Mason, Megan Luce, Benjamin Luce, Isaac Luce, Cannon Rogers and Jake Pehle; great-grandson Devin Luce; and nephew Kenneth Menut. In addition to her husband Robert, Nancy is predeceased by her grandson, Mitra Luce, as well as her brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Betty Menut, and their daughter, Barbara Menut.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Nancy M. Luce will be held from the Waterbury Congregational Church on Thursday, June 10, at 2 p.m. with a reception to follow in the church dining room. Friends called at the Perkins-Parker Funeral Home in Waterbury on Wednesday, June 9, from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Waterbury Ambulance Service, P.O.
