Donald G. Gendreau, 64, of Butler Street, Waterbury, passed away in the comfort of his home and family on Sunday evening, October 24, 2010. Born in Canaan on December 12, 1945, he was the son of the late Hermas A. and Marie (Garon) Gendreau. On November 30, 1968, Don married the former Janice Dutton in Lyndonville.

Don was a 1963 graduate of Canaan Memorial High School and continued his education at Saint Michael's College, graduating in 1968. Joining the U.S. Air Force following college, Don served four years during the Vietnam War. Upon his honorable discharge from the service, Don embarked on a career as a systems programmer for the state of Vermont, first with the Department of Employment and Training and then later with the Agency of Transportation, retiring in 2001.

Don was a longtime and active parishioner of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Waterbury where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. In his leisure time, Don enjoyed gardening, reading, was an avid walker, coached both Little League and Youth Hockey, was an accomplished woodworker and volunteered with the Waterbury Public Library Bookmobile.

Don is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jan Gendreau of Waterbury; their children, Nicole Fisher and her husband John of Waterbury and Christopher Gendreau of Middlesex; two grandchildren, Zachary and Ryan Fisher of Waterbury; a sister, Janine Ringland of Haverhill, MA; two brothers, Jules Gendreau of Albany, NY, and Richard Gendreau of Colchester; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family. A brother, Robert Gendreau, predeceased Don.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Andrew Catholic Church in Waterbury on Saturday, October 30, 2010, at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow in the parish hall.
