Ernest "Joe" Hoadley, 77, of Kneeland Flats Trailer Park, Waterbury, passed away unexpectedly at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin on Saturday, November 27, 2010. Born in North Wolcott on January 14, 1933, he was the son of the late Ernest and Ellen Hoadley. Joe was previously married to the former Edna Hoch who survives him of Warren, MI. On June 28, 1975, Joe married the former Elaine "Sis" Morse in Waterbury.

Joe attended school in Johnson and then served with the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955 during the Korean Conflict. He also served with the Army National Guard in Waterbury from 1953 to 1961 and again from 1975 to 1976.

Joe began his working career at the Parker and Stearns Lumber Co. and then worked for Rogers Construction in building I-89. He later worked as a truck driver for Blow and Cote and then was employed by the Vermont State Hospital in Waterbury for 19 years as an aide from which he retired.  Never one to sit idle, Joe continued to work in maintenance and groundskeeping at the Stoweflake Resort in Stowe.

His memberships included the Harry N. Cutting American Legion Post #59 and its Color Guard, St. Andrew Catholic Church, was a former driver for the Waterbury Ambulance Service and was a volunteer driver for GMTA. In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing, auto racing, dancing and calling square dances and was an avid Red Sox fan.

Joe is survived by his wife of 35 years, Elaine "Sis" Hoadley of Waterbury; two daughters, Ellen Gonyaw and her husband Dennis of Washington and Bonnie Robtoy and her partner Harry Graves of Calais; four sons, Robert Hoadley and his wife Teresa of Eden Mills, Richard Hoadley of Richland, WA, Lincoln Robtoy and his wife Joan of Barre and Larry Robtoy of Barre; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family. Joe was predeceased by a sister, Marilyn "Tootie" Griffin, a brother, Kenneth Hoadley, and two grandchildren, Kimberly and Sophie Robtoy.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated from St. Andrew Catholic Church in Waterbury on Thursday, December 2, 2010, at 11 a.m. Friends may call at the Perkins-Parker Funeral Home in Waterbury on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment with military honors will take place this spring in the Lamoille View Cemetery in Johnson.
