Rosie Borel,   April 29, 1926 to August 30, 2011,  from Waitsfield, Vermont, and Villeneuve –Les-Avignon, France, passed away at home  surrounded by her loving family after a battle with cancer.  She was the oldest of six children born to the late Vincent and Marcelle (Maeso) Bargues and was the beloved wife of Henri Borel for over 50 years. Rosie will forever be remembered by her sister Claudette Amoletti and her brothers Joseph, Emilien, Raphael and Jean Bargues. And, forever loved by her daughter Francoise and husband Ken Desautels and son Francois Borel and wife Lara, treasured grandsons Vladimir and Sacha Borel and cherished granddaughter Gabriella Desautels.

Rosie was born and raised in Marseille, France, and moved to Paris at the age of 28 to start a career at Air France where she met her husband Henri.  They later married in Paris and after the birth of their daughter Francoise moved to Montreal and settled in the Mad River Valley where their son Francois was born and where they lived for close to 50 years. Upon arriving in The Valley, together, Rosie and Henri ran Club Ten and later opened Chez Henri, Café Shelburne and La Patisserie.

Rosie spent many days combing the Vermont countryside for antiques and once the family barn was chocked full, she opened an antique shop in Waitsfield and later a little shop in Sugarbush Village.  Rosie loved to play tennis with her dear friends as well as snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and downhill skiing at Sugarbush. Rosie and Henri enjoyed travelling the world together, and she took great pride in learning new languages to practice on her many trips abroad. Rosie always looked forward to her summer sojourns in France and cherished all the wonderful time she was able to spend with her husband, children and grandchildren in Villeneuve, France.

Friends and family are invited to attend a graveside memorial service at Waitsfield Village cemetery on Saturday, September 3, 2011, at 2 pm. Also, at a later date, the family will be having a celebration of Rosie’s life at Chez Henri.  The family requests all donations be sent to the wonderful people who came into Rosie and Henri’s home
