The formal ceremony involves separating the individual stripes and the canton of stars from a designated flag, placing them one at a time into a roaring fire.

The ceremony was one recently written by Scoutmaster Rick Lee. It is a celebration of American history and spirit that the flag represents. The ceremony concludes by placing individual groups of stripes and stars, separated from the remaining flags prior to the ceremony, into the fire.
