The four Crossett Brook teams are among the 23 teams from across Vermont that will depart for the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals at the University of Maryland in College Park later this week.

The teams qualified by earning first or second place in their selected "long term problem" and age division at the Vermont state tournament on March 8, 2008, at Champlain Valley Union High School in Hinesburg, Vermont.

CBMS students will tackle "long term problems" including "DinoStories" where "teams will present their original theory of what caused the dinosaurs to become extinct. The performance will include a dinosaur, a replica of the same dinosaur, an animal that is not a dinosaur, and a technical simulation of the team's "extinction theory." At least part of the performance will take place in a setting from the Triassic, Jurassic, or Cretaceous periods," according to the organization.

Odyssey of the Mind is the original and largest creative problem-solving competition in the state of Vermont.  Over 110 teams representing 60 schools and organizations participated in the State Tournament. Teams are judged on the creativity and effectiveness of their solution to a selected long-term problem. Problems range from technical to theatrical, but all solutions are presented in an eight-minute skit.

Over 800 teams from across the U.S. and up to 40 countries around the world are expected to compete at World Finals from May 30 to June 3, 2008.
