Harwood alpine ski team had their first race on Friday, January 9, at Sugarbush Lincoln Peak.

It was a full-length GS course down Spring Fling on a hard icy surface, reported coach Lisle Gilbert.

"Coming into the race we only had one day of training at Cochran's. Seeing that course was a bit intimidating! The kids handled it with the composure and focus way beyond their years, that of professionals," he said. He said that each and every racer stared down the course and then took a deep breath before blasting out of the starting gate.

Out of a field of 165 skiers the girls were first and the boys were third. For individual results go to the VARA website where the results page is found under CVU Carnival.

Gilbert thanked the Sugarbush race crew for putting on the event and also thanked Mike Minnerly and CVU.
