The Mad River Riders are inviting riders to gear up for the biking season with the Cranko de Mayo on May 2. The event raises funds for the organization’s trail crew, coaches for its Rippers program, and several events and programs.
Riders can choose from three ride options. The easiest is the “Pan Comido” which translates to “Eaten Bread”, a Spanish phrase that means piece of cake. It's 19.5 miles with 2000 feet of climbing. The route avoids the steepest roads so participants can get up to the views without killing themself.
The intermediate ride is the “Ni Muy Muy, Ni Tan Tan” which means not too hard and not too easy. It's 33 miles with 3800 feet of climbing.
The hardest ride, fit for the likes of the elite, is the “Una Priebe de Fuego” which means trial by fire. It is 40 miles long with almost 5800 feet of climbing.
New this year is the Deluxe Option offered by Ramble & Roam Adventures. Their guide will set folks up with an e-bike loaner and guide a 20 to 30 mile gravel ride showcasing the scenic views of the Mad River Valley.
All rides start at 10 AM on Saturday, May 2, 2026. All start and finish at Madbush Falls in Waitsfield. There will be aid stations out on the course at about the halfway point of each course to keep riders efueled. Madbush Falls will have drink and food specials.
