Five golfers playing out of the Sugarbush Golf Club successfully managed the qualifying round of the 2007 Vermont Mid-Amateur Championship held last weekend at the local golf course, but that was as far as their talent could take them in a field of 47 players, except for Stuart Libby.

The local hopefuls were Allan Pierson, Hagan Anderson, Stuart Libby, Christopher Austin and James Mcafee. Two others failed to make the cut -- Bernie Isabelle and Michael Whinston.

In the Match Play Master Flight round Stu Libby bested Peter Metzler of Okemo Valley Country Club, one up, but in the quarterfinal Libby lost out to John Balczuk, of the Kwiniaska Club, three and one, thus ending the local involvement in the 2007 tournament.

Bill Hadden of the Ekwanok C.C. beat Jeff Davey of the Burlington CC, five and four, in the finals last Sunday.
