Springtime means corn snow, sunny days and people in chicken suits riding snowboards across a near-freezing body of water. Spring swings into full gear at Sugarbush this weekend on March 27 with the wettest of snow sports - pond skimming - and the Tank for Nothing rail jam.

Pond skimming, an annual rite of passage at Sugarbush, will be held this Saturday just above the Lincoln Peak Village and is scheduled to get underway at noon. Registration for skimming will be from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Gate House Lodge. Budding Evel Knievel's are invited to strap on a pair of skis or a snowboard and attempt to rocket across the 38-degree pond. Costumes are encouraged.

Anyone looking for drier pursuits can head over to Mt. Ellen for the Tank for Nothing rail jam. The cash-prize event will be held from noon to 3 p.m. with registration beginning at 10 a.m. Anyone wearing a tank top will have the registration fee waived. Visit the events calendar at sugarbush.com to see just how much money is at stake.

Live music will be playing at both mountains.
