To The Editor:

After having written a letter or two joining the chorus of those who don't want the Mad River Valley Health Center to close and don't really understand why this is occurring, allow me to offer something different. I'd like to change tack and offer this proposal. Would someone who really knows this stuff be willing to step forward to spearhead an informational gathering followed by the launch of a capital campaign of sorts to help finance the continuation of the current center? (If finances are at the core of the problem)?  Pick a venue and invite the public. I'll be there and I'm sure many others will also. The main, but not only, item on the agenda should be a discussion, at a minimum, of creating a lifeline of funds to keep the center going while other long-term solutions continue to be explored. It seems that closure is imminent. Consequently, this ad hoc effort likewise needs to move with speed.

I realize that digging into our own pockets to sustain this center would be difficult for many. I also know it is manageable for many others. Together, maybe, we can have an impact on the current decision and/or timetable. Won't know unless we try.
