Are we so cognitively inept that we aren't allowed to be presented with alternative viewpoints from our fellow community members? Do we really need to be directed as to what we can and cannot hear about, think about, and consider?

I’m writing to express concerns about Front Porch Forum, which has received state, federal and local funding. This is a for-profit, Burlington-based business that is privately- owned and can publish or reject submissions at will. Recently, I had a post rejected by the forum. When I asked why, I received the response that I violated Section 2.8 of their terms of use, which states, “You agree not to submit content that is false, deceptive, misleading, or contains misinformation.”

My post did not include false, deceptive, or misleading information. It read:

Have you wondered about what chemtrails are, what geo-engineering is, if it even exists? Tomorrow,Friday,May, 29, at 12 noon on WMRW - 94.5FM and streaming at wmrw.org- I'll be interviewing Paul Bean, former candidate for Washington County senate who is currently working as a geo-engineering researcher. Paul will be discussing his research into this fascinating and controversial topic.

According to VT Digger, Front Porch Forum had 235,000 followers as of October 2024. This impacts the tenor and tone of conversations all across this state. There have been several well-attended No Kings rallies in The Valley. One of the big issues during these protests was censorship and free speech - one that I believe is vitally important to preserve.  Please consider a "No Kings" effort focused on FPF's censorship policies, particularly since it has received significant grant money from taxpayer-funded Vermont state nonprofits. And consider supporting our local newspaper and radio outlets that appreciate the diversity in our community and do publish letters and opinions.
