Construction on and around I-89 at exit 10 in Waterbury is getting under way and commuters should expect delays and changes to traffic patterns, especially during peak hours of 7 to 8 a.m. and 4 to 5 p.m. Starting the week of April 13, traffic on I-89 will be reduced to one lane in each direction with reduced speeds in the construction zone while the bridge decks are replaced. Both bridges are expected to be complete by the end of this construction season.

Also starting the week of April 13, all southbound I-89 on ramps from VT 100 will be closed from 3 to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. This detour during the afternoon peak will reduce congestion on the interstate, helping traffic move through the area. Motorists wishing to travel south on I-89 will be detoured to exit 9 in Middlesex via Route 2. Temporary signals have been installed along the detour route and a team of traffic monitors will be initially stationed at key intersections to ensure that traffic is flowing properly.

The detour route map and weekly construction updates are posted on the Waterbury Works website, watp.vtransprojects.vermont.gov. Commuters can also sign up to have the weekly updates emailed.
