After 35 days of Route 100 being closed at the Lareau bridge over the Mad River in Waitsfield, the bridge will reopen on schedule at 7 a.m. on Sunday, July 24.

The deck overlay has been installed and the team is working on the retaining walls and approach slabs. This week, the team will place the bridge curb concrete, backfill an abutment and set approach slabs.

The bridge closed on June 19. As of today, July 21, there are only three more days of taking the official and unofficial detours.

Crews from St. Onge Construction worked from dawn to dusk to complete the project for VTrans under VTrans’ accelerated bridge replacement project plan. Rather than building temporary bridges, disassembling old bridges, replacing them, then removing the temporary bridges, roads are simply closed (where possible) and the process is sped up.
