The Mad River Valley Planning District’s (MRVPD) 2023 preliminary data report shows an increase in conserved lands in The Valley since 2019 and a decrease in energy usage at Sugarbush Resort over the past 20 years.

Twenty-seven percent of land in the Mad River Valley -- or 65,646 acres -- was conserved as of 2021, according to the MRVPD preliminary data report. The majority of that land was in Warren with 8,592 acres (33%) conserved. Fayston had 6,348 acres conserved and Waitsfield had 2,608 acres. Most of that land was privately conserved. The report shows that the acreage of conserved lands in The Valley has been increasing over time.

The data report includes annual energy usage at Sugarbush Resort. Sugarbush has maintained below-average energy usage since 2014. The resort’s highest energy usage occurs in November through January each year. Since 2002, Sugarbush’s annual energy usage has decreased by 40%. Sugarbush has maintained below-average energy usage since 2014.
