The Mad River Valley Bear Initiative (MRVbears.org) recently purchased and partnered with stewardMRV to install two BearSaver receptacles at Lareau Swim Hole and Bridge Street stewardMRV sites in Waitsfield. Members of the bear initiative praised stewardMRV coordinator, Tom Spencer, and MRV Bear Initiative member, Andy Phelan, for collaborating on the project and helping to keep bears wild.
With proper use, these bear-proof receptacles help prevent bears from accessing human food sources. “If you see something, say something to individuals leaving trash next to or behind the BearSaver receptacles. Any trash items (i.e., pizza boxes) that do not fit into the receptacles should be packed out,” said Andrea Henderson of the Mad River Valley Bear Initiative.
“Please direct individuals unaware of the issues caused by leaving trash around to the MRV Bear Initiative and BearWise information posted on the BearSaver receptacles,” she added.
