Some 75 people celebrated the grand opening of Warren’s new pavilion on the town green in the village this weekend.
Camilla Behn, vice chair of the Warren Select Board, welcomed folks to the September 13 event which featured music by the Vermont Jazz Ensemble.
“There are really so many people who have invested in this reality over many, many years and if we attempted to name them all, I would not only be standing here blathering on for longer than anyone wants me to but would inevitably leave out someone who played a role,” Behn told those gathered on Saturday afternoon.
On behalf of the select board, Behn recognized a few of the many who helped make the pavilion a reality, including all who attended a 2006 Warren Planning Commission charette at which this spot was identified as the perfect site for a future town green.
She noted the role that Warren Library director Marie Schmukal and town treasurer Dayna Lisaius played in 2022 when they advanced the idea further which led to a project sponsored by the Vermont Department of Housing and Community Development’s Better Places program in partnership with the Vermont Department of Health, the Vermont Community Foundation, and the crowdfunding platform Patronicity.
“We want to recognize all of those who participated in the design process and the many generous donors who made financial and in-kind contributions toward the pavilion construction including Corrigan & Klein Artisan Builders who built this beautiful timber frame structure that I am standing under right now. They, along with a number of their construction partners dedicated countless hours of labor, materials, and resources in its construction,” Behn said.
“There is truly a very long list of people we could recognize but I don’t honestly believe that anyone involved in this endeavor acted for either the recognition or the kudos,” Behn added.
She closed by asking those present to celebrate the spirit of cooperation and volunteerism that led to all being on hand to enjoy the pavilion, the town green and the music of the Vermont Jazz Ensemble.
