The Mad River Valley Chamber of Commerce is launching a workshop series called Stand Up for Safety, designed to help hospitality workers recognize and respond to situations that may threaten their well-being or that of co-workers or guests. The first session, Gender-Based Violence Bystander Training, is Tuesday, October 22, and will introduce the 4Ds of bystander intervention – a practical framework that helps individuals recognize harmful behaviors and respond. Led by Anna Nasset Consulting, the training focuses on real-world hospitality scenarios and empowers participants to take appropriate action when concerns arise.
“Hospitality is the backbone of the Mad River Valley’s economy and culture,” said Eric Friedman, executive director of the Mad River Valley Chamber of Commerce. “By giving our front-line-staff the tools and confidence to recognize and respond to difficult situations, we’re not just protecting individuals – we’re strengthening the fabric of our community and ensuring The Valley remains a safe, welcoming place for everyone.”
Each Stand Up for Safety workshop focuses on a key aspect:
- October 22: Gender-Based Violence Bystander Training – Learn the basics of gender-based violence prevention and the 4Ds of bystander intervention.
- January 7: Understanding Domestic Violence, Human Trafficking, and Stalking – Identify signs of harm and connect those in need with appropriate resources.
- April 1: Sexual Assault Awareness Month – Learn to recognize early warning signs and respond to disclosures with compassion and care.
- August 5: Workplace Culture – Explore how to create supportive, inclusive workplaces where everyone feels valued and safe.
Each session will include discussion, exercises, and local resource connections to ensure participants leave with practical tools they can use immediately.
