Planetary Matters will host a Peace Party at Camp Meade in Middlesex on Saturday, October 25, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This family-friendly event aims to bring the Vermont community together to celebrate peace through art, food, and collaboration.
“The Peace Party is about creating a space for people to gather and engage in something positive and meaningful,” said Russ Bennett of Planetary Matters, which owns Camp Meade. “We believe peace is something we cultivate together.”
During the Peace Party, the nonprofit screen-printing studio Iskra Print Collective will lead a hands-on workshop where attendees of all ages can print their own peace posters to take home. Volunteers will guide participants through the process of screen printing four original designs. Iskra is a nonprofit subsidiary of JDK Design, Burlington and the event is presented by the designers at Solidarity of Unbridled Labor.
In addition, the Shelter Peace Project will invite guests to contribute to a collaborative mural titled the “Peace Garden,” which will be painted around the Camp Meade Green. The initiative encourages youth to spread peace-themed artwork throughout Vermont communities.
“Art builds bridges,” Bennett said. “It’s our way of sparking important conversations and reminding each other that peace is possible.”
Held on The Green at Camp Meade, the event will include a community potluck lunch at the Pavilion at Camp Meade, which serves as a hub for local gatherings. Guests are encouraged to purchase food and cider from Woodbelly pizza or bring a dish and share free bread from Red Hen Baking .
