An enthusiastic and boisterous crowd of protestors lined the streets of Waitsfield Village on Saturday, October 18 to take part in the national No Kings day protests held across the nation. Some 300-400 people were present throughout the morning in Waitsfield.
Participants were irreverent, peaceful and cheered each other on as they marched with their signs and banners, flags and costumes, hats and caps. They were greeted primarily by honks and waves of support with a few folks indicating their displeasure with the protestors and their messages.
The event was organized locally by Indivisible MRV and many participants left the Waitsfield event to join similar protests in Montpelier, Burlington and beyond.
In Waterbury approximately 400 or so people participated in the event at the intersection of Stowe and Main Streets, according to the Waterbury Roundabout. In Waterbury there was dancing to tunes from Bluetooth speaker with others singing along further down the road. The Waterbury event was organized by Carol Baitz.
No Kings is a coalition of over 200 local, state, and national nonprofit and advocacy organizations supporting community organizing and nonviolent rallies against federal government actions that are perceived as undermining constitutional rights and democratic principles, according to its website.
