Green Mountain Valley School (GMVS) celebrated the accomplishments of the Class of 2026 on Saturday, June 6, as students, families, alumni, and friends gathered on campus to recognize a graduating class shaped by perseverance, curiosity and a strong sense of community. The class was honored in a ceremony on campus, surrounded by family, friends, alumni, staff and community members.
The week leading up to graduation was filled with final exams, senior internship presentations, lacrosse playoffs, an all-school prom hosted at The Round Barn and an end-of-year dinner for the GMVS community. The festivities culminated with a commencement ceremony on Saturday, June 6.
As has become a GMVS tradition, each graduate addressed the audience. Their reflections highlighted transformative experiences in and out of the classroom, from training and travel to friendships that will endure long after graduation. Their speeches captured the spirit of the school — stories of challenge and perseverance, of friendships formed at camps, in the dorms, and through bonds with classmates and teammates, as well as powerful connections with teachers and coaches. Through years of balancing academics, athletic commitments, and community responsibilities, the graduates developed the confidence and independence that will serve them well in the years ahead.
The ceremony recognized outstanding academic achievement. Matias Citarella, Middlebury, Vermont, received the Governor Phil Hoff Vermont Honor Scholarship, awarded annually to a Vermont resident who demonstrates outstanding academic achievement, community service, and extracurricular involvement. Citarella also shared the title of Class of 2026 Valedictorian with Hadley Reed from Hingham, Massachusetts.
Also, in keeping with tradition, the seniors selected their grand entrance to the ceremony. This year, they made their grand entrance aboard a convoy of Jeeps.
Members of the Class of 2026 will continue their journeys in a variety of directions, enrolling at colleges and universities, pursuing competitive athletics, and taking post-graduate opportunities.
