Moretown residents braved rainy weather this past weekend to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the town charter.

A record number of residents attended the Moretown Elementary School barbeque and talent show on Thursday. They then filled the Town Hall on Friday for a potluck and presentation by Christine Hadsel, the director of Curtains Without Borders. Hadsel talked about the history of theater curtains across Vermont, including one of Moretown's curtains, which was recently displayed at the state capitol.

Due to rain, Saturday's villagewide yard sale was rescheduled for the weekend of June 8 and 9, but Sunday's events went off as planned with a cake cutting and presentation on the Taplin School and more of Moretown's history at the Town Hall.

All weekend, the community generously supported the celebration by purchasing commemorative T-shirts, mugs and historical booklets and donating directly to the Moretown Historical Society. Commemorative Moretown 250th anniversary T-shirts and mugs are still available by special order. Proceeds benefit the Moretown Historical Society.
