Merlin (Pat) Phillip Pierce, 89 years old, of Waitsfield, Vermont, passed away on May 24, 2025, at CVMC in Berlin. Thank you to the wonderful nursing staff for taking care of him in his final days.
Pat was born on January 28, 1936, in Warren, Vermont, to Hiram and Freda (Thompson) Pierce. Pat loved to share his memories of the “old Warren” where he was raised until 1949 when his parents moved to Massachusetts. There he met his wife Jacqueline (Wade) Pierce of 56 years. They were wed in 1959 shortly before moving back to Vermont. They started their farming career in Northfield before moving to Cabot. They farmed for the Bothfelds until 2013 when Pat was forced to retire. They then moved to Waitsfield to be closer to family. In 2016 he lost the love of his life to cancer and today he joins her again.
He is survived by his sisters: Hester Sheldon, Corrine Whitney, Harriet (Tiny) Whitney, sister-in-law Betty Pierce, and hundreds of cherished nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. He is predeceased by his siblings: Edward Pierce, Robert Pierce, Frances Pierce, Virgina Jones, Marion Pearce, Elwin Pierce and Carol Pierce. He was predeceased by his parents Hiram Pierce (1984) and Freda Pierce (1989).
Pat's favorite past times were watching the Red Sox and Bruins games. He loved his time with his four-hooved ladies and socializing with family. The last few years of his life Charley and Stephany were his enjoyment.
He is a great man and will truly be missed by all.
A special thanks to Brianna (Squeaky), Danelle, Ashley, and Tammy from CVHH&H for making his last couple of years comfortable and entertaining.
Celebration of life will be at the Warren Town Hall from 1:30 to 4 p.m. on July 19, 2025. In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to the local Mad River Valley Little League in his honor.
