
John A. Matusz, 78, of Waitsfield, Vermont, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2026, in Hardeeville, South Carolina, surrounded by family. He is predeceased by his parents, Frank and Mary Matusz; his brother, Stanley Matusz; and many aunts and uncles he remembered fondly.
He is survived by his son, John; daughter-in-law, Danielle; and granddaughters, Angelique and Phylicia, along with Angelique's husband, Patrick. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Catherine Matusz; nephews, Stan, David, and Brian; and his cousin, Elaine, and her husband, Larry Prievo.
John was an avid outdoorsman who especially loved skiing and surfing. He was funny, witty, and known for his unique sense of humor. A talented artist and skilled sculptor, he was also a proud New York State-certified welder. His unique perspective and passion for his craft were evident in every piece he created, blending artistry with the skill of a master welder.
John cherished his family and friends and held those relationships close to his heart. He will be deeply missed, and his legacy lives through his art and the memories shared by those who knew him.
A memorial service will be held at Our Lady of the Snows Church, 6305 Main Street, Waitsfield, Vermont, on Friday, June 26, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow on Monday, June 29, 2026, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery, 7118 Herkimer Ave. & E. Dominick St. Rome, New York, 13440
