James Hinson Monroe, 80, passed away peacefully at his home in Warren, Vermont, on July 11, 2026.
Born in New York City, James was the son of Carrie Mildred Monroe and Chester Arthur Monroe Sr. He grew up in Port Washington, Long Island, New York, where he developed the strong work ethic and independent spirit that guided him throughout his life.
James enjoyed a successful career installing modular furniture, a profession that took him throughout the United States and around the world for 33 years. Many times he managed a team of more than 15 on the road for several months. He was known for his skill, professionalism and dedication to his craft.
James’ second career lasted 12 years as a team leader in the facilities department of Husky Injection Molding in Milton, Vermont.
An avid skier, James found great joy in the mountains and eventually made his home in Warren, Vermont, where he enjoyed the natural beauty and the skiing that had long been one of his passions.
James never married and had no children. He is survived by his older brother Chet Monroe and Chet’s wife Jeanne Pasko Monroe and their sons Chet Monroe III of Hillsboro, Oregon, and Dan Pasko of Vancouver, Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents and his older sister Jane Alida Monroe, nee Doncourt, who passed away in 1999.
James will be remembered for his quiet strength, independence, integrity and his kind heart. He touched the lives of many through his work, his friendships and his love of the outdoors. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
James’ cremated remains will be interred at Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx, New York.
