Agnes I. Dunbar, 92, of Dunbar Hill Road, North Fayston, passed away in the comfort of her family at Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin on Thursday, January 18, 2007. Born in Fayston on June 1, 1914, she was the daughter of the late John and Hannah (Durkee) Hoffman. On October 15, 1932, she married Gerald L. Dunbar in Waterbury Center. Mr. Dunbar passed away on April 12, 1995.

Agnes attended schools in Fayston and then was employed as a housekeeper and cook at the Knoll Farm Inn in Fayston, the Alpen Inn in Waitsfield as well as a housekeeper for several private homes in the Mad River Valley.  In addition, Agnes was busy as a homemaker, raising their 10 children and helping her husband with the family logging business. Her hobbies included quilting, vegetable and flower gardening, and bird watching.

Agnes is survived by her children, Doris Audet of Northfield, Janice Hanlon of No. Fayston, Lorraine Barlow of Sun City, FL, Carol Purdy of Johnstown, NY, Sheila Stoodley of Perkinsville, Jane Welcome of Colchester, Valerie Angolano of Shelburne, Bernard Dunbar and Bruce Dunbar, both of Fayston; 30 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family. She was predeceased by a son, Cedric Dunbar, as well as three brothers and three sisters.

A service of remembrance was held from the Waitsfield United Church of Christ on Monday, January 22, at 11 a.m. Spring inurnment will take place in the North Fayston Cemetery. The family requests that flowers be omitted; rather memorial gifts would be appreciated to Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice, 600 Granger Road, Barre, VT 05641, or to the Mad River Valley Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 305, Waitsfield, VT 05673.
