Roger F. Lanphear, 46, of Waitsfield, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, December 9, 2007. Born in Montpelier on December 8, 1961, he was the son of the late Royce E. and Norma (Corrice) Lanphear. On August 11, 1993, he married Helen Marquardt in Waitsfield.

Roger attended Harwood Union High School and then joined his father in the operation of the family business, R & R House Moving. Roger also was employed by Fred Viens Excavation for several years before moving to Colorado where he operated an automotive business and then to California where he was employed in landscaping. Returning to Vermont he worked several years for Arbortech Nursery and then, most recently, he operated his own stonewall construction business until declining health forced his retirement.

His memberships included the National Street Rod Association. In his leisure time he enjoyed restoring cars and manufacturing street rods, collecting model cars, fishing and spending time with friends and family, especially his granddaughter, Isabella.

Roger is survived by his wife, Helen of Waitsfield; his daughter, Cristal Vasseur, and her husband, Jeff, and their daughter, Isabella, all of Fayston; a sister, Vickie Lanphear of Waitsfield; a nephew, Tyler Sabin; two nieces, Chelsey Lanphear and Britney Sabin; as well as extended family.

Memorial services will be held from the Waitsfield United Church of Christ on Friday, December 14, at 1 p.m. There will be no calling hours. The family requests that flowers be omitted; rather memorial gifts would be appreciated to the Mad River Valley Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 305, Waitsfield, VT 05673.
