Beatrice C. Schirmer, 86, passed away at Mayo Healthcare in Northfield, Vermont, on Wednesday, February 11, 2009.
Born in Stamford, Connecticut, on February 28, 1922, Bea was the
daughter of John William Cody and Mary Anna (Gallagher) Cody. In
October 1941, Bea married Howard Schirmer, who predeceased her in 1994.
Bea is survived by her children, Lynn and Gary Kingsbury of Waitsfield,
VT, Sue Chiappetta of Moretown, VT, and Tad and Ginnie Schirmer of
Waitsfield, VT, and Sumatra, Indonesia. Bea is also survived by her
grandchildren, Todd and Lisa Kingsbury of South Burlington, VT, Kim and
Greg Calbert of Austin, TX, Jen Schirmer of Long Beach, CA, and Eddie
Schirmer of Waitsfield, VT; great-grandchildren Skyler and Reese
Kingsbury and Griffin, Gavin and Owen Calbert; sister-in-law Ann B.
Cody of Stamford, CT; and nieces and nephews.
Bea was predeceased by her son-in-law Doug Chiappetta; brother and
sister-in-law John and Ann Cody; brother Edward Cody; sister Joan
Draper Woodson and brothers-in-law Bart Draper and Woody Woodson;
Howard's brothers Frederick and Edward Schirmer; and his sister Ruth
Mead.
Bea grew up in Stamford and Old Greenwich, CT, and lived most of her
married life in Riverside, CT, before moving to Waitsfield, VT, in
1983. She was a longtime member of the Presbyterian Church of Old
Greenwich and the United Church of Christ in Waitsfield. Bea lived a
full life as a caring mother, wife and homemaker. She was active in the
Girl Scouts, American Red Cross, United Way and other charitable
organizations.
A private memorial service and inurnment will take place in Sellecks
Corner Cemetery, New Canaan, Connecticut, in the spring. In lieu of
flowers, contributions may be made in Bea's memory to Mayo Healthcare,
71 Richardson Street, Northfield, VT 05663. The Perkins-Parker Funeral
