E. Virginia (Peck) Foster, 93, of Joslin Hill Road, Waitsfield, passed away at the Rowan Court Nursing Home in Barre on Tuesday, June 30, 2009. Born in Schenectady, NY, on April 8, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Ethel (Stevens) Peck.

As a youth, Virginia loved to swim, ski and spend time with her siblings, Margaret "Marge," Andrew "Bud" and Eleanor "Ellie." She was a graduate of Nott Terrace School in Schenectady and then went to work at Marion's Appliance Store and later for Dr. George Herman. It was while she was working at Marion's Appliance Store that she met her husband to-be, Henry Joslin Foster. They married September 7, 1940, in Schenectady. In 1973 they moved to the Mad River Valley in Vermont where they settled in the town of Waitsfield. She very much enjoyed spending the rest of her life in the Green Mountains. Henry predeceased Virginia on December 18, 1981.

Virginia was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was an accomplished bridge player. She dedicated her life to her family and they have loving memories of her. Always a joy to be around, Virginia often spent many late nights playing cards with her family, sometimes stopping to make a batch of delicious homemade doughnuts between a hand.

As well as being an avid reader, Virginia was a great storyteller; her grandchildren delighted in her many stories about her childhood and her children growing up.

Virginia is survived by four children, Robert Foster and his wife Robin of Waitsfield, Richard Foster and his wife Janet of Waitsfield, Susan DiSarro and her husband David of Schenectady, NY, and Michael Foster of Limerick, ME; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Vance of Clear Lake, CA; a brother, Andrew Peck of Schenectady, NY; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family. She was predeceased by a son, Martin Foster, and a sister, Eleanor Magee.

Services will be private in Waitsfield, Vermont. For those who wish, memorial gifts would be appreciated to the Rowan Court Nursing Home, Patient Activities Fund, 378 Prospect Street, Barre, VT 05641. To send online condolences please visit www.perkinsparker.com.
