Sandra Jean Sumner, 66, formerly of the Covered Bridge Road, Warren, passed away at the Rutland Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, February 2, 2010. Born in Montpelier on January 29, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Helen (Rogers) Pearce. On September 13, 1962, she married Howard A. Sumner in Warren. Howard predeceased Sandra on April 3, 1997.

Sandra attended schools in Warren and Waitsfield. A housekeeper for many years, Sandra worked at the Alpen Inn, The Seasons and the Sugarbush Inn from which she retired due to declining health. An avid Red Sox fan and bingo player, Sandra also enjoyed spending time with her large and loving family, in particular her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Sandra is survived by her children, Paula Robinson and her husband Robert of Waitsfield and Nelson Sumner and his wife TaLani of Bryson City, NC;
11 grandchildren, Shannon Sumner, Laura and Jamie Herring, James and Joey Litchfield, Krista Litchfield, Jessica Robinson, Michael Stevens, Lyndsay Sumner, Emily Sumner and Nathan Sumner; four great-grandchildren, Briona Litchfield, Talan Herring, Isabella Litchfield-Stone and Bryan Litchfield; two sisters, Judy Pearce of Barre and Linda Pearce of Chandler, AZ; four brothers, Guy Pearce of Stowe, Richard Pearce of Chelsea, Roger Pearce of Greenfield, MA, and Robert Pearce of Plainfield, MA; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family. A son, Brian Sumner, two sisters, Polly Pearce and Evelyn Pearce, and two brothers, Donald Pearce and Cliff Pearce, predeceased Sandra.

Sandra's family wishes to extend their appreciation for the loving care that was provided to their mom and gram by the staff and volunteers at the Berlin Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral services will be held from the Warren United Church on Saturday, February 6, at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow at the Warren Fire Department. Spring interment will take place in the Warren Village Cemetery. The family requests that flowers be omitted; rather memorial gifts would be appreciated to the Berlin Health and Rehabilitation Center Patient Activities Fund, 98 Hospitality Drive, Barre, VT 05641.
