Harwood Union High School has hired a new coach for the varsity girls’ soccer team. Kurt Nielson, who recently relocated to the Green Mountain state from Georgia, joins Highlanders with a total of 15 years of coaching experience, including a stint as the assistant girls’ soccer coach at the United States Military Academy.

Will Nielson enforce soldierly standards on his new team at Harwood? It’s too soon to tell, but Nielson had the chance to meet his returning players last Wednesday and he’s very excited to start working with them later this summer.

“I’m just waiting for the season to start,” Nielson said, and once it does, “we’re going to sit down as a team and come up with individual and team goals.”

“I’ve always loved coaching,” Nielson said, “and not just the sports part. I love the life lessons and learning how to be a teammate.”
