The Harwood softball team dropped their first game of the season to Randolph.

Not only was it the first game of the season, but also it was the first softball game to be played on the newly constructed field. Unfortunately, it could not be christened with a win.

Although the Highlanders had a few strong hits, they could not get their pitching in order and the Ghosts took advantage of the opportunity.

Head coach Ed Lamson said that the team played well for the first game of the season. Additionally, he noted that their starting pitcher is currently sidelined with a broken foot, setting the team back from the start.

“This is the first game at Harwood. It was good. This is a very nice field,” Lamson said. Even though the Highlanders lost they at least did so at home, whereas in the past the team played in Waterbury.

Lamson noted that having a home field definitely lifts the spirits of the team throughout the game and it is nice to actually have a home field now.
