The Empty Bowl Benefit will raise funds for farms and families who are still recovering from heavy rainfall and flooding that took place in early July. The funds will be distributed through the Northeast Organic Farming Association of Vermont and the Vermont Main Street Flood Recovery Fund.

From 2014 through 2019, The Mud Studio has held empty bowl benefits, raising nearly $50,000 to alleviate food insecurity in Vermont. Owner Mike Sullivan said that, “Once again, our community finds itself in a crisis with many people in deep and unforeseen needs. Now feels like the right time to bring this event back to life.”

With a $35 ticket, attendees can pick from hundreds of bowls donated by local potters. There will be two seatings at 4 and 6 p.m. Bowls will then be filled with a choice of soup, donated by local restaurants, caterers, and home chefs. The event will also feature artisan cheeses, breads, and desserts. The bar at Zenbarn will also serve drinks for purchase.

The event is paired with an online auction, where ticket holders can bid on local crafts, services, and gift certificates.

Blockhouse Studio owner Pam Day said that bowls were donated from members, students and instructors from both Blockhouse Studio and The Mud Studio, as well as some independent potters in the area. She said that potters have committed to donate about 400 bowls.

“Using our skills and creativity to raise money for farmers and businesses to rebuild is an honor,” Day said.

Tickets are available at www.themudstudio.com with a limited number available at the door.
