To The Editor:

Like many of you, I watched in horror the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis law enforcement. As a police officer for many years, now retired, I am writing to ask everyone in our community to take notice of the good things first responders do.

I was in the riot squad (not by choice) in California for both the Rodney King decision and the OJ Simpson verdict. I can speak to this. Violence, under cover of protest, is not the answer. And, yes, there are some bad cops out there. But I can assure you that most law enforcement officers want to save lives and protect you.

I am urging you not to allow the horrifying Floyd event to deter you from calling upon, relying on and cooperating with our law enforcement responders. First and foremost, they are here to help all of us.
