To The Editor:

On the afternoon of July 24, I was headed north on Route 100. As I rounded the hill and the curves at the Warren Falls parking lot, I encountered a black, out-of-state minivan parked/stuck, half off the traveled lane, half on the berm of the pavement. It was not moving.

This was a perilous situation as the occupants were gathered around the van, including three young passengers wandering around. I stopped briefly to warn the adults that this was a dangerous stretch of road, and to move the children to a safer spot. No action was taken. I put out three flares -- two north of the scene, and one back down Route 100. The children were still out of the van and possibly in harm's way in my opinion.

What is wrong with us, that we have not aggressively taken action on this ongoing issue? Who is the constable and what the heck does he do? Is this under the purview of the select board? Who? How about a few tickets? A tow truck? A visible presence that we and the statutes mean business? There's no cell service, so I called 911 from The Warren Store phone and reported the situation. At some point the parking lot should be closed like many public beaches. Sorry. The folks should be asked to move along or face fines and towing! Okay, I get it. Until some happy vacationers and or their innocent children are killed or injured there will be zero response.

Shame on us and the powers that be. Shame.
