Dear Valley Community,

As the board chair, a friend, and fellow Warren representative to the HUUSD school board, I want to take a moment to thank Jonathan Young for his service on the Harwood Unified Union School District school board. At the time of his resignation last week Jonathan was the longest-serving individual on our 14-member board having been elected in 2021.

Jonathan’s thoughtfulness and care for our students, families, and taxpayers has been evident throughout his time on the board. From his active participation in budget discussions to advocating for a thorough review of district spending, Jonathan has always been outspoken and asked the hard questions. He has shown a sincere commitment to representing the interests of the Warren community as well as all students across the district.

He consistently looked to keep the board focused on strong academic programs, thoughtful oversight of restraint and seclusion practices, fierce support for the arts and music, and the inclusion and support of all students, including those in our LGBTQ+ community.

Public service on a school board is not always easy, navigating complex issues where there are no easy answers is what it is really all about. Jonathon has spent many years engaged and working to keep our district’s schools the best they can be. On behalf of the board, and community members across the district I extend a heartfelt thank you to Jonathan for his service, his time, and his thoughtful engagement on the school board these last five years.
