After more than three years of effort, the Boyce Hill Steering Committee submitted its final draft of the Boyce Hill Management Plan to the Fayston Select Board. The plan, required by the Vermont Land Trust conservation easement, was approved unanimously at the select board’s September 26 meeting. The final draft incorporated several changes voiced during a June 29 public forum held after the committee’s draft was submitted.

With the approval, The Boyce Hill Steering Committee was disbanded. Select board chair Jared Cadwell thanked the steering committee members Pete Colgan, Woody Dugan, Sally Dwyer, Lisa Koitzsch, Chuck Martel, Corrie Miller and Karrie Thomas for the effort they put into the plan. Amy Sheldon of Landslide Natural Resource Planning led the committee through the process of finalizing the plan. Caitlin Cusack, who approved the plan for the Vermont Land Trust, transmitted her approval saying “Congratulations on one of the most thoughtful and thorough town forest management planning processes I’m aware of.”

A Boyce Hill Committee, part of the Fayston Conservation Commission, will soon be appointed by the select board to oversee implementation of the plan. Colgan and Dugan have accepted positions on the Conservation Commission to lead the hands-on work that will be required moving forward.
