Waitsfield-Fayston Volunteer Fire Department chief Tripp Johnson said he got the call at 1:39 p.m. that a home at 2092 German Flats Road had flames coming out the window.

He activated mutual aid with the Warren and Moretown Volunteer Fire Departments and had a first responder on the scene within five minutes of the call and had the first fire truck on scene in 11 minutes.

“We did an aggressive exterior attack and knocked the flame down. There was heavy damage one apartment below and damage to the apartment up above,” Johnson said.

Johnson said that throughout the afternoon there were as many as 30-35 firefighters on scene and said that Waitsfield firefighter, Gordie Eurich, who’d been in Coventry, also showed up.

Most of those firefighters and most of the equipment was gone by 4:30 p.m. and Johnson left at 6:30 p.m. after talking to the state police.

He said most of the damage is in the lower floor of the building and said that the entire building is uninhabitable. The building is owned by Andy and Jane Cunningham, Warren.
