Fayston Budget

Fayston voters will be asked to approve a 2026 town budget of $2,122,025 of which $1,648,576 will be raised through taxes. That’s a 15% increase over 2025, but represents only a 0.02% increase in funds to be raised from taxes. Fayston anticipated 21025 revenues of $1,831,877 but ended the year with actual revenues of $1,995,324.

Fayston saw a significant increase in its health care costs this year. Town treasurer Sarah Stavraky said that Blue Cross Blue Shield would not renew with the town this year and the town went to MVP instead. Insurance costs went from $128,559 to $147,798 and that represents fewer people on the town’s insurance plan than the year prior.

Fayston added a fourth full time road crew member in 2025 and that, plus the town’s cost of living increase for its employees means the road crew wages line went up 18%, from $277,320 to $317,266. The town provided an average of four percent cost of living increases to town staff this year.

Like many local towns, Fayston is allocating capital funds each year to several reserve funds. This year the town is adding $10,000 to its town garage reserve fund, $10,000 to its culvert reserve fund and $12,000 to its town forest reserve fund.

Here is a list of the town’s reserve funds and their estimated balances as of December 31, 2025 while audits are pending.
