The Valley Players will take its community variety shows “on the road” this year with one-night-only performances at two local venues.

On Saturday, April 11, the 38th annual Cabin Fever Follies will be presented at the Big Picture Theater in Waitsfield. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for dining with a 7:30 p.m. showtime. This community event features folks from all over performing their hearts out to shake off the winter blues. Singing, fiddling, banjo playing, improv comedy, poetry, storytelling, and magic are just some of the acts that might be presented. The Raisinettes will share messages to the audience for a small donation to the Valley Players, strutting across the stage to the beat of the classic Motown song “I Heard it Through the Grapevine.” Anyone wishing to perform or act as a Raisinette should email This email address is being protected from spambots. On Friday, April 17, at 7:30 p.m., the sixth annual Mad River Story Slam will take place at the Village Meeting House (below the Waitsfield Church) on Main Street in Waitsfield. This year’s theme is "I Should Not Have Been the One in Charge!" Ever been handed the clipboard, the keys, or the “simple” plan… and everything went gloriously sideways? This year’s Story Slam celebrates the chaos, comedy, and cringe of being accidentally in charge.

Anyone wishing to participate as a storyteller should call the pitch line at (802) 583-1674 and leave a two-minute version of their story in Mailbox #4. Story pitches will be accepted until Friday, March 13, and 10 storytellers will be selected. Two Zoom workshops with professional Moth storyteller Sue Schmidt will be available for those who want support polishing their stories. These workshops have been invaluable for helping people hone their stories from their humble beginnings and participation is encouraged.

Both events are hosted by Valley Players board members Doug Bergstein and Susan Loynd. For tickets and more information go to valleyplayers.com or call 802-583-1674.
