Dorothy Van Houten, a longtime resident of the Mad River Valley, passed away on May 12, 2025, at age 94. Having raised two children, David and Lori, at Pines Lake in Wayne, New Jersey, Dorothy and her husband Dick moved north where they lived for over 30 years fully enjoying the beautiful mountains of Vermont.
Dorothy was active in The Valley, becoming a president of the local garden club, starting a popular bridge group that she continued to enjoy for many years, volunteering as a docent at the State House in Montpelier and holding a season pass to Sugarbush Resort until her 80th year.
Dorothy loved her family. In addition to her two children, Dorothy is survived by three granddaughters: Kate, Kristen and Anna and three great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by both her family and her many friends in Vermont.
Donations may be made in her name to the Warren Public Library.
