Theda D. Nelson, 78, of Shaw Mansion Road, Waterbury Center, passed away in the comfort of her home and family on Friday, November 7, 2008, following a brief illness. Born in Waterbury Center on September 19, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Leslie W. and Marion (Kennedy) Dow. On December 26, 1948, Theda married Norman C. Nelson in Waterbury. Norman passed away on December 5, 2004.

Theda was a graduate of Waterbury High School. As a young woman she was employed for several years as the assistant town clerk in Waterbury and then took the position as secretary and assistant with the Waterbury law office of Meaker and Adams Attorneys, a career that spanned 35 years, retiring in 1996.

Theda was a longtime member of the Waterbury Congregational Church and in her leisure time enjoyed reading, playing cards, puzzles, camping, fishing and canoeing.

Theda is survived by her children, Larry Nelson and his wife Wendy of Waterbury Center, Bruce Nelson of Duxbury, and Michael Nelson of Austin, TX; her grandsons, Jamie Nelson, Jonathan Nelson, and Joshua Nelson and his wife Amanda; her great-grandson, Garrett Nelson; a sister, Colleen Gibbs of Waterbury Center; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family. She was predeceased by a sister, Jeanne Sweetser, and four brothers, Wendall Dow, Ryle Dow, Bernol Dow and Ransom Dow.

Memorial services will be held from the Waterbury Congregational Church on Thursday, November 13, at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow in the church dining room. Inurnment will take place in Hope Cemetery, Waterbury. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts would be appreciated to the Waterbury Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 95, Waterbury Center, VT 05677.
